I flew into LAX late morning last week and my departure was around midnight. Check in doesn't open until three hours before departure so I needed a day room to complete a board report. Via my Hilton app there seemed to be nothing available at all. I looked at Dayrooms.com and they have every hotel with a price for a room from 12.00 to 21.00 - you can pay by length of stay.
I booked Embassy Suites for $99. No pre-booking, no credit card and cancellations permitted.
I asked the receptionist how come the hotel was showing full and she said they dump all of their day room inventory via DayRooms.
The good news is that you get all of your points, bennies and status recognition.
I am sure more seasoned travellers are familiar with this site but I was delighted to discover it whilst cowering in a terminal trying to find a socket to charge my phone. and hooking up to the LAX free wi-fi - US roaming rates for us is a killer.
