What is your IHG One Rewards status?
Diamond Royal Ambassador Inner Circle
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, even if I am not a big fan of the hotel and the soulless area.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked on points King Bed Marina View and got two twin Beds Standard Sea View Room.
How are the rooms?
Around 40sqm.
Elegant contemporary design.
Comfortable beds (but why did we receive twin beds when booking a king bed?).
Sockets and usb sockets next to the bed.
Television set with large number of channels (but most international ones had no signal).
No possibility to connect television to mobile devices and even PC (as the HDMI sockets behind the television set are not accessible).
Desk.
No bathrobe.
No expresso machine. Kettle.
1 small closet.
Bathroom with bathtub and separate walk-in shower.
Apotheke amenities (very good).
Very quiet. View « over the sea » (but in fact it is a view on the marina harbour, without real interest)
Perfectly clean.
Efficient air conditioning.
Erratic wifi.
No PressReader.
Incomprehensible switches, which force you to turn on the room if you wake up in the middle of the night (especially as the room has no night light with motion detector).
Terrible anti-theft belts (I thought that this type of equipment was reserved for old or very economical hotels), which prevent you from spreading your stuff outside the wardrobe.
How is the exec. lounge?
The club lounge shares the same entrance as the so-called Yacht Club.
The club offers good quality salads and mediocre hot food in the evening, and alcoholic drinks.
Stale draught beer. Lukewarm Diet Coke. Staff not unsympathetic but never seen.
We didn't have breakfast as we had an early flight to Bodrum from Sabiha Gökçen international airport (the reason we stayed at this hotel).
What was good and what was bad?
GOOD
Recent hotel, with quite elegant interior design.
Less than 20 minutes to the airport by taxi early morning
Impressive fitness centre.
BAD
The hotel is not bad, but it is located in an uninteresting marina, in which there is nothing to do (unless you like to spend time in the large open-air shopping centre next door, with a multitude of clothes shops and restaurants).
The hotel is right on the sea, but behind a dam, so it feels more like a lake in an industrial environment than real sea.
The hotel has no swimming pool, which is very strange when there is no beach: while it could have been a very pleasant and relaxing hotel with an outdoor swimming pool, it is just an urban hotel in a place without interest.
The service is not terrible, but it is a far cry from that received at the InterContinental Istanbul (which was admittedly exceptional during our 14-night stay): invisible club lounge staff chatting at the entrance to keep themselves busy, cleaning staff shouting at each other while blocking the corridor with their cleaning carts, and not answering to the hello, etc.).
Why assign a room that is the exact opposite of the club lounge, in an almond-shaped building, forcing you to walk two long corridors to get there?
Value for $ or IHG One Rewards Points? Would you return?
The hotel did the job as a property not too far from the Sabiha Gökçen international airport (less 20 minutes ride with crazy taxi drivers early morning), but I'm not sure we would have been any less relaxed in a quality airport hotel.
