This is why I’m with Pucci (sentiment, not proximity), having had this happen to me a couple of times. By selecting 1a/c, we’re generally guaranteed 1a/c even with an aircraft change, plus the bonus of first choice meal, a nice chat and many, many top ups. The only downside is having to be on first in order to get overhead space, particularly if the crew have taken it.
It ended up ok. 1C was originally free on the seat map and c12 hours from check-in my seat assignment shifted from 1D to 1C. I didn’t fancy being bashed by every passenger on boarding so left it to almost the end to board. Leg room is great, but on balance I don’t like 1A/C on this configuration. It feels very open, like a chef’s table in a kitchen but not in a good way.
It’s just a pain to have the risk of a G-GAT a/c added to the mix at LHR.
