Hyatt Vacation Club at Desert Oasis - Cathedral Canyon, CA REVIEW MASTER THREAD

In the Palm Springs area, distance is about midway between the Hyatt in downtown Palm Springs and Hyatt Indian Wells Resort. My stay was April 2022, just a few days after Hyatt took over the property, it was a Lawrence Welk Resort. The web site description, in all caps, states Luxury Resort. Luxury is definitely not the case and resort--well maybe to some, but not not for me. It's a timeshare property (which I have nothing against) and would be a good choice for families. I arrived around 4:00 p.m. and left at 8:00 a.m. the next day. Location is on a major road, Cathedral Canyon Drive which, at the time of my stay, had road major construction.

I was assigned to possibly the worst location--closest to the major road with major construction. Bottom floor, which was okay because there are no elevators and I had a medium sized suitcase. Parking was right outside the building, so I liked that. At check-in I was advised to go to the "concierge" desk for a parking pass to be displayed on the dashboard. Flashback to IHG vacation resorts. Yes, concierge was the timeshare sales person who tried to talk me into attending a presentation even though I was only there for 16 hours. Unit was okay; as I mentioned, good for families with a full kitchen, separate bedroom, living room, 1 bathroom. Living room furniture was a little worn, didn't want to sit on the stained sofa. Sliding door to a small concrete slab with two chairs so I could watch the traffic and construction. BBQ grills throughout the property, in the room I could clearly hear someone's cell conversation a few doors away, while he cooked on the grill.

No restaurant, there is a "poolside snack bar" that serves drinks and snacks but it was closed when I arrived at 4:00. JAX restaurant at the "country club", is a short walk away, and I was repeatedly reminded it was not part of the Desert Oasis. Decided to give it a try--the night I was there closing time was 7 p.m. due to an event (Bingo) and a very minimal menu. After being told "we don't have that" (3 or 4 items), I said what do you have? A ham dinner for $35. OK, I was tired so took that. Haven't been to a Denny's in ages, but that's the type of food. No breakfast options at the "resort" because, of course, there are kitchens in the units and everyone goes down the road to a grocery store or Target to stock up. There are two pools, close to each other, one for adults. Lots of kids and looked like they were having fun (seemed to be quite a few activities for kids). I believe I paid around $165 in April, it's a category 3, I noticed the prices went up after I booked my stay. Hotel rates in the Palm Springs area are really high so, again, a bargain for families versus the very pricey Indian Wells Resort (although there is no comparison between the two--splurge if you can).

Bed was comfortable but by the next morning I just wanted out of there. Bathtub shower combo. Final straw was when barely a trickle of water would come out of the tub faucet. Called front desk, they said that happens did I try turning the faucet every which way? By then I just wanted out of the place, I had things to do and a flight to catch, so declined waiting for an engineer. When I checked out I asked what compensation could I get for lack of water for a shower. Well, we already gave you the $12 (or was it $20) resort fee credit for being a Globalist, so there's nothing we can do unless you want to wait for the manager who will arrive in two hours. I just left. Also, one more thing that may be of interest to some, a few dispensaries within maybe a block, same side of the street--all you have to do is follow the smell to find them.
