We have now stayed at the Waldorf twice. We have stayed at the Cape four times. We are top tier in both Hilton and Hyatt. Our first stay at the Waldorf was January 2021, pre Covid. We then switched to the Cape with all our stays during Covid. Let me go thru the things I noted about both properties.
Waldorf:- Our first stay was during whale season. It was fantastic to look out from our room and see whales breaking thru the water
- We are able to use credit card certs for base rooms (tho those are challenging to find).
- I am not fond of the base room. I haven't seen a base room at the Cape so can't compare them
- Service was impeccable
- El Farallon is an excellent restaurant. It has beautiful views over the water and has a well priced multi course meal. I consider it superior to Manta, the gastronomic restaurant at the Cape
- The afternoon chips and guac delivered to the room were a treat
Cape- We used 50K points to book their one bedroom villa on each stay. We have never stayed in a standard room. We really like the villa with its kitchen, not that we did any cooking but it was nice to have a refrigerator and microwave.
- Breakfast is superior here with sophisticated choices. I also like the location of the restaurant where breakfast is served with better ocean views than the Waldorf.
- I like the rooftop deck at night. It has enjoyable tapas and fun music.
- There is a pleasant bar by the swimming pool with shaded tables for snacks.
- There is a range of free exercise classes on the rooftop at the Cape, one per day.
- Other than whale season, I prefer the view at the Cape. We looked over the arch and all the rock formations that come from it toward the coast.
- It is a smaller more intimate property.
It really is close between the two properties, a nice challenge to have.
