If I were you I'd keep it simple and leave the bags in-system. Take a change of clothes/toiletries in hand baggage. Leaving aside a potential situation like OP's (which is unlikely to happen TBH) I wouldn't want to schlep it around LHR with 3 bags in the heat we've been having these days.
