Air India needs an improved website and booking engine
Having extolled some of the virtues of Air India's changes in another thread, I have to say that Air India badly needs a significant upgrade to its website. It is quite pathetic. Almost 4 out of 5 times, I get system busy or connection error. The booking engine hardly works. They seem to sell so many biz and first tix through TAs, that their website always have no availability for key dates on US-India and UK-India sectors (while my TA can confirm any of those dates without a problem).
They need to host the website on a better network. Half the problems seem to be bandwidth and network related. The other set of problems is between basic usability and access to simple functionality (some of the capacity issues for their servers).
The web site does not work well with Firefox or other Mozilla and non-IE browsers. The technology behind seems to be quite primitive (I am in the IT industry and can tell). Usability sucks - each time the screens resets to Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi (alphabetic sort). Most major carriers have impressive features - each standing out from the other; AA has a lot of new features, BA has the calendar display that show available lowest fares for different dates, CO has improved tools for award booking, etc. If AI wants to compete with them it at least needs to have a simple, functional booking engine (such as the one for JetBlue, SouthWest or other LCCs).
