I remember in college (UW) flying Northwest Orient DC-10s on the SEA-GEG route! Yes, it took longer to load/unload than the flight itself, wheels-up to wheels-down in about 25 minutes. No seat assignments, either -- you just picked what you wanted in either smoking or non-smoking, and if you ran into classmates at the airport, you could sit with them.
