What the Venture X offers over the Platinum card: primary rental car CDW coverage for no additional fee, small lounge enhancements (CapOne lounge(s) and Priority Pass restaurants), and it has the near universal acceptance of VISA.
Compared to the Amex Blue Business Plus from the Amex "trifecta" I think the Venture X is a more versatile base 2x earning card, especially since it doesn't have the $50k cap. You have to do a few mental gymnastics to justify the annual fee with the travel portal credit and the 10k annual mile bonus, but if you're coming from the Amex ecosystem this is a walk in the park.
This is really good advice, as I too am pondering the place in my wallet for the VX card. So far, I simply use it to book air through the portal, as well as car rentals for the primary CDW. However, C1's transfer partners are not that useful for me personally, so this in essence turns into a 2% card for non-portal spending. Given that it's a break-even proposition in terms of the $300 travel credit and 10K annual points, I will likely hold on to it for a while to see what may be on the horizon for future C1 lounges.
