Last week I did CMN-JFK in J for 57.5k AA miles. Flight was fine on a 789 with 1-2-1 config, virtually identical seat to AA 789 I flew a few days before (DFW-MAD). The food was just about edible, service mediocre/indifferent (rushed meal with one reluctant glass refill followed by complete disappearance of FAs), IFE extremely limited (like 15 movies and 2 old sitcoms), check in and lounge at CMN was crowded and unpleasant, boarding chaotic, and zero OWE recognition. Having said all that you can't beat the reward value so I regard it as an excellent use of miles. If I had paid $$ for the flight I would be disappointed.
I also had a MAD-CMN- RAK AA award ticket on RAM booked for 22.5k miles as a backup in case of a missed connection at MAD. When my IB MAD-RAK worked out, I canceled the RAM ticket at 2 hours notice. I did have to call to get the miles reinstated but had no issues.
