Pretty curious as to how this is all supposed to work, what the system will allow easily, what the system will allow with some extra effort, and how loose it's allowed to get when ops go sideways.

I hope the 'only one change' has more to do with system limitations that require some finesse to get around - I'd imagine it's to the airline's benefit to put someone on standby for an earlier flight, at least!
