The cost to/from the base of the mountain was something like 50OMR per direction. If your rental is only going to be for 3 days, then I doubt it makes sense to rent a non 4x4 and pay a further 100OMR for the hotel transfer.
Sorry if I was unclear - I'll be in Oman for a week...the two night stay is just the the resort. So the 4x4 "premium" is significant...
