Appi Kogen Resort looks attractive and worth a visit, but as far as the onsen is concerned, I'd rank the IC Beppu's onsen higher based on the photos. It looks like the bath in your room may have had onsen water access too, am I wrong?
Stunning photos, thanks. But better yet, at least for me, would be to enjoy the best of both worlds by walking through nature while drinking straight from a bottle of champagne.
The entire hotel at Appi is Club Intercontinental, it is on the small side around 40 rooms. So as far as comparisons go, to be fair you should price wise compare it to Beppu club rooms. But yeah it does not reach Beppu on onsen quality, and it does lack a bit of the wow effect of Beppu.
The room had a hinoki bathtub, but just regular water.
