The information on IB's web site is a bit ambiguous. It says business class and IB+ members have free messaging on all flights with Wi-Fi. It also says on long-haul flights all business class and IB+ members have free connectivity. By "connectivity" do they mean just messaging, or general Internet access? In other words, is there any difference between "all flights with Wi-Fi" and "long-haul"?

Is it: (1) business class and IB+ members get free messaging but not general Internet access on all flights with Wi-Fi, or (2) business class and IB+ members get free messaging on all flights with Wi-Fi and general Internet access on long-haul flights?

Also, how do they verify that you are in business or an IB+ member? Perhaps either log in or enter PNR?
