There was probably some small change that resulted in the automated system trying to make it better for you. Most pax are happy without the stop, FTers sometimes aren't - I've never had an issue calling and being moved back.
That said, as others posted above, EQMs don't exist anymore. Unless this is a special fare that posts as distance, you aren't getting anything for flying more anymore.
