Why didn't you ask when the proposed changes were so much not to your liking?

But law is law. Law doesn't say if the only problem the stopover is longer and arrival is on time, you don't get compensation.
The - very coarsely - states that you are a) due compensation, if you incur a significant delay beyond a certain threshold and that b) the airline cannot make you take an earlier schedule less than 14 days out.
None of these two applies to you - LH offered you an inferior routing and you gladly took it.

..the change of airport, and the long stopover, were very costly and very complicate with 2 babies.
Then why don't you ask for some goodwill gesture. You should have negotiated these term with the agent beforehand but you can always ask.

Also I had stress as 7 days ago I was no longer sure to take off. Please stay on the law, not on your feelings, thank you.
Stress - feelings ... there's some irony.
I believe the law isn't on your side, so asking for some restitution sounds more strategic to me.
