Susona Bodrum LXR = Good Treatment of Repeat Guests

Introduction I stayed and reviewed this hotel last year but I thought I would provide an update this year because I tried a different room type than before. This hotel remains one of my favorites in Bodrum. Room Last year I was upgraded to a premium room in shoulder season and this year my upgrade as repeat guest was better: I stayed in a junior suite with private pool, despite my stay being in the heart of high season and was overlapping with a weekend to boot. The inside of the junior suite did not seem very different than the premium room I had last year and was of very similar size and layout. The drawback of the junior suite is that sea views were limited but I was told they gave me the one junior suite they have which has some sea views between trees whereas for others the view would be blocked. Obviously the main draw is having a private pool which in Bodrum is not something that will come cheap at competitor hotels: usually they are only for the premium room types at hotels of a similar level as LXR (Caresse, EDITION, Rixos) or for hotels in a much higher price range such as Mandarin Oriental or Aman. The only other hotel I have seen in Bodrum with room types with a private pool which can occasionally be achieved with a complimentary upgrade is Six Senses but it’s in Kaplankaya, not really close to Bodrum. Dining The breakfast menu was similar to last year and the Turkish breakfast at Susona is a small feast which can compete with the breakfast at EDITION. I also like that they have several other a la carte dishes to complement the Turkish breakfast. Service Service at the hotel was excellent, perhaps last year because my stay was quite short it was more difficult to have a strong opinion either way, and also I was alone back then and now this year with wife and daughter the service element was more important and more prominent. First of all I was contacted by e-mail ahead of the stay for special requirements which is always appreciated. Then at the hotel they went out of their way to please, for example in the restaurant they brought us items off the menu and even proactively asked if we wanted something else special off the menu for the next day’s breakfast. One of our daughter’s toys had a dead battery and they replaced it (we could not do ourselves without a screwdriver), and even on one occasion I ordered food from outside the hotel and they drove me to the gate in a golf cart rather than me having to walk there myself which I was prepared and expected to do. Housekeeping was also done exactly at the time we requested, every time. This is in contrast with many hotels where recently it many just forget or are too overworked to adapt their workload to our timing demands. Wifi Wifi worked well with speed of 30 Mbps. Overall Overall Susona LXR is one of my favorite in Bodrum, with all things considered I think EDITION is a notch above but while the price tag of EDITION and Susona used to be about the same, nowadays EDITION is almost double so arguably Susona is the better value. However the style of both hotels in different enough that I think individual preferences would be more important: EDITION for the beach and views, Susona for rooms with a private pool and the more lively atmosphere at the main hotel pool.
