Airtag doesn't do that. It will only notify you of the location if you are looking for it. It's NOT one of those old tag thing on the keyring or laptop that if you are away from it, it will beep.
Airtags used to have a “notify when left behind” setting, just for this use case.. has that been removed, or is it only available with certain phones? It DOES required iOS 15, but not sure if the phone has to have the U1 chip.
