Novotel Barcelona City

- Name of the hotel: Novotel Barcelona City

- What is your ALL status? Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes. From the reviews I expected it to be much worse, to be honest.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Booked Suite (highest category), received same (obviously), but on the 17th floor, which I think is the best floor, it's not directly underneath the rooftop pool and bar (19th floor), but it's high enough to have a beautiful view of the entire city (it's a corner room, so you get a very large panoramic view, from the sea to the Tibidabo)

- How are the rooms? The suite is good, but to be honest, it should be renovated asap. Especially the bathroom. It's clean and everything you need is there, a bathtub and a shower, but the plumbing is noisy and the shower leaks when you use the rainshower. Toiletries by Rituals in large dispensers. The bed is comfortable. There is a separate living room, both have a smart TV, but you cannot use its "smart" functions because there is only a universal TV remote with which you cannot do much. A/C works perfectly.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- the location is good enough, next to the Torre Glories (former Torre Agbar), close to the L1 metro stop Glories, so it's well connected with important parts of the city (Catalunya, Espanya etc.). It's also in walking distance of the Sagrada Familia, as well as the Bogatell beach, and there is a large Westfield shopping mall across the street with lots of restaurants and a large supermarket
- very nice staff
- free minibar in the suite, replenished every day
- rooftop bar is very nice, has a great atmosphere, the cocktails are fantastic and you can also order food there, which is good too. On Fridays nights there are singers and on Sunday nights there is a violinist playing up there - I loved it very much

Bad:
- not enough elevators for such a big hotel
- breakfast gets very crowded, you have to chose your timeslot for when you will have breakfast, which can be inconvenient, but I realize they don't really have a choice and ultimately it's a good system
- rooftop pool is quite small and mainly used by children
- breakfast - it's a large spread, but the quality isn't there really

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Welcome drink for 2. The voucher excludes wines, but the waiter himself offered us wine and we took him up on the offer.
No welcome amenity, however, a nice gentleman was waiting for us at the priority desk with a bottle of Cava on ice and two glasses. That was a very nice touch.

- Value for money? Would you return? It was very expensive for a Novotel (240 EUR a night), but I would return, yes. I would always book a suite, though. I don't think the other rooms are in a good condition. The entire hotel needs a facelift, actually. Unfortunately, with Sofitel still not open and Fairmont closed indefinitely, there are no other 4 and 5 star Accor hotels in Barcelona at the moment. Actually there is a Mercure, but the location and the reviews are not great. This one is good enough and if you can get a discount, even better.
