Just completed a 3 night stay on points this weekend at MP. Still love the hotel and would definitely come back again.
ROOM: Used an upgrade to be placed in a Sanctuary Suite - it was the south western - most room on the 2nd floor (similar to another poster earlier on this thread) - i wish we could have gotten a higher floor, as it was a little less private and noisier there. Views were great of course - overlooking the ocean and pier, although the street light was almost level to our windows and was quite bright at night.
FOOD: Front desk confirmed $40 pp - to only be used at Piper Restaurant. We made reservations every day to ensure we didn't have to wait for a table. Weekday a la carte items were very lackluster. Scrambled eggs were overcooked, potatoes undercooked, and avocado toast rockhard and the avocado had zero flavor/salt. Absolutely loved the buffet options on the weekend though. Great selection of pastries/breads, fruit, bacon, waffles and fried chicken, cheeses, etc. The chef that made the avocado toast was wonderful. You could tell he loved doing his job. Although we went over a couple days and added tip/tax/service charge, none of the breakfast charges ended up on my final bill.
POOL: We ventured to both hotel pools on different days - and each time we didn't have any problems finding a beach chair (even with the influx of families and their children). MP is smaller and more intimate. SB is larger. SB also has cushioned beach chairs you could also rent for $50 a day. They both have cabanas as well, but I didn't inquire on the pricing. For cocktails, I typically like blended drinks when sipping poolside. MP did not have the ability to make blended drinks, but SB did.
The other thing to note - the Top Gun House offers small bite-sized pies. We didn't try them, as the reviews on YELP were pretty bad. I feel they could make more money if it was an ice cream shop instead of a mini-pie shop...
