My two cents...I am not a frequent flyer like many here. I and my family arrived through EWR last week. It was our first time using Global Entry so we weren't sure what to expect. We deboarded and saw a bunch of Submit MPC Now signs, but I didn't do so. We collected bags and rechecked them onto our connection. We went through GE kiosks which used facial recognition. No passport scan. No fingerprints. We got our receipts and walked to our connection. I didn't see anyone or anywhere that asked about customs declarations. So we were a little confused by the process. We didn't know if GE let us bypass a customs line or if there was some kind of laxity in the normal process.
Usually there's at least a CBP agent monitoring the GE exit line . . . but otherwise this is exactly what you hope for with GE - no delays at all after scanning your passport or face.
If you had a declaration to make you would probably want to search someone out . . . though they likely would find you first.
