Hi all,
I have just learned that if I rent from Avis (or whichever rental company), in South Africa, and plan to drive into neighbouring countries, I would need to pay extra fees due to insurances. However, I am not very clear on their policy.
Cross border rentals to Namibia are permitted at an additional cost of NAD 90. This fee is payable at the Namibian border and is applicable if driving a non- Namibian vehicle.
"Renters wishing to enter Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho or Namibia must be in posession of a letter of authority obtainable from the Avis rental office at time of rental. An additional ZAR 1140.00 (incl tax) will be charged to cross border rentals intoNamibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Cross border rentals into Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Vehicles may be taken into Zimbabwe and Mozambique under the following circumstances:
* Vehicles may not terminate in Zimbabwe or Mozambique and must be returned to South Africa, Namibia or Botswana subject to normal one way fee as applicable.
* Prior application is made a minimum of 24 hours in advance with reservation details (Fax 27-11-923 3726)
* Only groups P,A,B,C,D,E,O & N are permitted entry and require prior management approval.
* In addition to Collision Damage and Theft loss waiver charges, an additional waiver charge will apply and must be paid directly to Avis by the renter when they collect the vehicle.
Additional Waiver charges:
* Groups P/A/B/C ZAR 160.00 per day, minimum 5 day charge ZAR 800.00
* Groups D/E/O ZAR 200.00 per day, minimum 5 day charge ZAR 1000.00
* Groups N ZAR 210.00 per day, minimum 5 day charge ZAR 1050.00 "
Does it mean that if I plan to go into Swaziland and Mozambique, I would need to pay additional fees of 1140Rand + 800 Rand? Or is it just 800 Rand for the 2 countries?
I did not know about this until i accidentaly discovered it. If this is the case, I might forget my idea of going into any other countries around South Africa
Or could there be a way of going around these extras?
Thanks.
