It really is a complicated programme. I've worked out what my Garuda flights earn (100% MQM + 20% of those miles converted into USD as MQD).
But I'm hazy about what happens if I don't requalify for Diamond next year. Will I slip down to Gold whether or not I attain the Gold requirement, in the manner of the British Airways programme? Or would say, a zero attainment of MQM/D mean I'm kicked out onto the tarmac ?
No, Delta does not do soft landings. DL rolls over excess MQM earn above your status level which can help maintain a certain level of status during slower years, but it doesn't really do anything for people on status matches who don't plan on doing much DL flying. Since you are based overseas, you don't have to worry about MQDs.
