It is a hidden perk that has been going on since the A-List & CP sequential check in started for an entire party on one PNR in March 2020. I don't believe it has stopped (someone correct me if I am wrong here). A-List preferred, A-List, and CP parties are assigned boarding numbers (in that order) to make sure everyone is seated together. As a CP without A-List, you and your companion should be in the A-30/40 range.
One of us had been consistently A-List since the change, I had apparently ignored any reports that didn't apply to us. That's pretty interesting. I'll have to pay more attention from here on out - I wasn't looking forward to earning A-List next year...
