Sometimes it takes someone who is looking for the odd or out of place attractions to draw attention to something interesting.
As for the third, that's something cities should promote. A lot of people are too "culture specific". They'll go to a few festivals/events a year and that's it. Every city has some sort of promotions department which should have a beat on all the events/tourist attractions and how to get people to them.
Assuming we're talking about LP of the past when we actually bought their books, I agree. Most of their writers were not natives, but they provided key information that tourists care about. The fact that restaurants/hotels/subway lines change all the time was not a big deal for me because the core content remained valid AND we didn't have other options. Now, we are forced to sift through user-generated content instead. FT is excellent in this respect because I trust you guys, but finding answers to simple questions takes time. Meanwhile, TA is easier to navigate, but a lot of establishments play games with the reviews.
