How long to wait for expense claim to be processed?

How long should a request for accommodation expenses due to a cancelled flight take in the current climate? My outbound and return flights were cancelled by BA and rebooked, both requiring an overnight stay at LHR which was just a transit point for me as I was flying USA to Europe.

I submitted separate requests for the outbound and return expenses because they were one way tickets. For the return flight I received an email confirming payment would be made within a week of submitting the case. The funds were deposited a week later. Excellent service on that one.

For the outbound I submitted the same information, received a case number at the time of submittal and a “we are working on it” email a week later. Two weeks after that I received another “we are working on it” email, and yet another holding email one week after that. I have not heard anything for 4 weeks now making it 8 weeks since I first submitted the claim and 4 weeks since I had an update.

How often should I get an update? Is there anyway to chase this up other than updating the case (which they tell you not to do).
