In theory, I'm confident that number is over 2 million people worldwide. To qualify, someone only needs an email address from one of these companies to verify their employment there. A Google search says that Amazon employs 1.6 million people around the world. That includes warehouse workers, but it's 2022: I'm going to assume they all have email addresses. Another Google search says that Microsoft employs 181,000 worldwide. And 73,000 for Nike. Beyond those three, I don't know what other companies have AS fast track programs, but I'd assume the rest collectively have over 146K employees.
Now, how many from that total pool would care to do this, would be able to do this, or even know about these offers, those are different questions altogether.
A few things to keep in mind:
Most people don't travel for leisure, and if they do they take 1-2 trips a year.
Most employees of these companies don't travel for business
Most employees of these companies don't live on the west coast of the US (regardless of where HQ is) making AS essentially useless.
A lot of business travel is international, making AS essentially useless.
The majority of people who travel (including many frequent travelers) don't bother with frequent flyer programs. They just book whatever is cheapest.
When you add all this up, you get that while many people are eligible, it's irrelevant to almost all of them.
