I'd call BA if you suspect there is actual availability. I've had the AS flight that I wanted not show up on the BA search engine even though there was availability showing on EF. When I called BA and provided the flight information the agent was eventually able to find award space.
Interestingly, at first the agent said there was no space available. But then they went to check again, possibly using a different method, and found it somehow.

Alaska and AA are unique partners in that they are able to book each other’s metal using variable priced awards, which BA does not have access to. The fare class you are looking for on expert flyer would be T for Y and U for J.
Doesn't AS use E for J awards, and U for upgrades?
