I have rich experience in buying money orders in Kroger and Walmart. But my experience was mostly based on US Bank Visa Gift Cards that are sold at Kroger. I recently moved to a new state where Kroger does not have a store there. There are three stores that sell monry orders there: Wlamart, Winn-Dixx, and Rouse. Since there is no Kroger there, I could not find a place to but US Bank Visa Gift Card. In Winn-Dixx, they sell Sunrise Bank Visa Gift Card. So, I ourchased a $25 Sunrise Bank Visa Gift Card there and tried to purchse a $25 Money Order from the same store (I have done this mutiple times at Kroger). No luck. The casher let me tried the card mutiple times, while the machine kept rejecting the payment. So, I believe that the POS at Winn-Dixx is hard-coded.

I took my $25 Visa Gift Card from Sunrise Bank to Walmart and purchased a $20 Monry Order. The process was super smooth, and I did not even need to input the PIN of the Gift Card. This is really the first time that I was facing a suitation that a PIN was not needed when purchasing a monry order (I have been buying for many years, and I still remember that I was able to purchase over $8k money order in one trip to two to three stores when I was in another state).

So, I decided to increased the amount and purchased a $500 Visa Gift Card from Sunrise Bank at Winn-Dixx. I took the csrd to Walmart and tried mutiples to purchase a $500 monry order (I paid the $1 fee in case). The cahser was nice, but the machine was hard-coded and would not let me purchase a money order. I later on read from the WiKi that in Walmart, the limit per swpe is only $99 for Visa Gift Card from Sunrise Bank.

I found that Winn-Dixx also sells Mastercard Gift Card from Meta Bank. I will try that card soon. Do any one here know whether the Mastercard Gift Card from Meta Bank still work at Walmart for money order purchase? I heard that we need to "cancel" the payment and change the payment method. Thanks.
