no - as I said, I’ve used the insurance to cover fees, but never the cost of the tickets. I’ve needed to make changes based on kids getting sick and needing to delay but not completely cancel. Have also used to cover accommodation for first night when I’ve needed to cancel past the deadline, and those have been successful. That’s why I said it’s based on my understanding, but I think there are some accounts in the Chase forum.
It's good that this worked out for you, and I appreciate that you took the time to share, but the agent's reasoning is deeply flawed. The value of an unflown ticket must be used by the same passenger, but it need not be used on the same route. It still has value, and I would not generalize from one experience.
agreed. For me, I travel enough, even post-COVID, that a credit would still easily get used in almost all situations. IMO, no sense in adding extra work/extra claim if you are going to be able to easily use the credit anyway. Now, I could see situations where the credit might not get used. For example, say the wedding situation and credit is with an airline that doesn’t fly to an area you normally go (ie, wedding was in say, Singapore, and credit was with SQ but you don’t generally travel to Asia) - that is where it would make sense to do the extra work to get the cash.
