You learn something every day:
Tipping in China is generally uncommon and can even be considered rude or embarrassing in some circumstancesso when taking a taxi, enjoying a refreshing drink or tucking into a delicious meal there's no requirement to leave any gratuities. Gratuity is even illegal in airports and some establishments in China!Apr 25, 2022

As someone who has lived in China for 15 years I can assure you that tipping at a hotel or lounge is neither rude nor embarrassing for the staff. They will take your money. It’s not as common now as it was 5 years ago since nobody has cash.
I always tipped the HKG CL bartenders a 100 HKD or RMB when I received my first drink and they would always make sure I was sufficiently lubricated with champagne for the duration of my stay in the lounge. It got so they started to remember me on subsequent visits and have a champagne ready as I walked up to the bar.
