Given that the BOS-LIR nonstop departs in the morning, I assume that you would travel to Boston the day before, and overnight there. If that is the case, I wouldn't worry too much about a delay on Amtrak, which is currently offering a $13 non-refundable fare from ALB to BOS or BBY on December 30. Greyhound also offers a one-seat ride which is a little faster than Amtrak, but more expensive.
