I did call in the end and was told it was the 6th of the month - did register my unhappiness at the app and will receive £20 compensation to add to the £45 compensation already received for previous issues (charges declined due to app not having the in-app approval function) so I shall come our ahead in the end. Would certainly have preferred a service that works though!
