Sounds like the usual thing with AMEX holding your money for a period before actually ‘paying’ AirNZ for your ticket.

If you have a PNR (booking reference), you should be able to see the status of the reservation. Key is to have an e-ticket number (starting with 086-xxxxxxxxx).
