Eight or so years ago, when UA still used to allow you to listen to ATC on approach, we took the arrival that the OP had. We were over North London when we were asked to expedite our arrival and so we took a diagonal to around the Twickenham area - quite irritating as I had a seat on the right with no wing obstruction.
