I keep meaning to buy one of the emergency hiking devices that send out an emergency sos with gps location when activated. Garmin has several. Would something like this have been helpful? It may not have worked in parts of Africa.
I'm honestly not sure how useful an emergency beacon would have been in the remote area where I got stuck. A satellite phone is likely the best option in the future, so that I could have contacted whomever I needed to request help.
