Wow, thank you for posting. I also read your longer blog post. Your trip report is a reminder to always carry extra food, water and good hiking shoes in case one needs to hike out of a situation.

I keep meaning to buy one of the emergency hiking devices that send out an emergency sos with gps location when activated. Garmin has several. Would something like this have been helpful? It may not have worked in parts of Africa.
