As I was checking out of the Andaz London last week, I noticed a 10% service charge added to three of the eight nights I’d stayed. I called the front desk, asked them to remove the charges, which they did. But the receptionist told me that in August the charge would be obligatory rather than optional.

I’ve encountered these charges in Asia and at some Asian run hotels in LatAm (e.g. Banyan Tree), but I don’t recall seeing a service charge added to my bill at Hyatts in Europe before.

Has anyone else run into this or heard anything? Is this the next phase of drip pricing?
