When protection for IROPS exists, it is generally the responsibility for the late-delivering carrier (AA, in the OP's situation) to rebook the affected passengers. AA might very well rebook the passengers on EY, but might also rebook them on other carriers. However, if separate tickets are involved, then AA would have no responsibility here.
