This ALWAYS happens. Apparently it’s cheaper for BA to be assigned remote stands. Often there’s jet bridges available but they still opt for busses.
what hurt was to see Vueling parked at a gate, though I assume it was a Schengen gate, so not really a 1:1 comparison.
