If you decide to go land based, I can highly recommend Misool Eco Resort. It is by no means luxurious in terms of service, facilities or F&B. But it has some beautiful villas, a very friendly vibe and they have brought tremendous benefits to the local community and ecosystem. The resort is very remote, but the diving is absolutely superb and I've been told that the snorkeling is excellent as well. The only problem is that they have a long waiting list, unless you are flexible and something pops up at short notice.
