The phone was registered under her son's name and birthday but using our addresses. Fast forward to this year, we get now getting mail every week about how to get into college addressing to her son or "her son's last name FAMILY". Apple sold the data to 3rd party with the birthday so they know he is now in the High School sophomore/junior age.
big dislike on this, but I think I've opted out of data sharing for both myself and my mother's Apple accounts. I will probably just buy it in my name, then log in to the phone with her Apple ID to do the setup.
