I chatted in to ask about a retention off on my Schwab Platinum card. I get the $200 relationship bonus already, so on balance it makes sense to keep the card. I got an offer the last year, so I was doubtful. The agent gave me an itemized list of how much I personally saved with each benefit. It was over $1,000. I could argue I would not have spent that money without the benefit, but I think AMEX is mechanizing for more aggressive retentions.
hah I got the same thing on my Schwab - I had gotten a retention offer on 7/23/21 but was checking again - denied. I asked to cancel the card but the CSR actually said to wait till after the 23rd (today) to cancel so that I don't risk getting the points pulled back - so
for that rep - will cancel this weekend as I don't need two Platinum cards
