According to the official
seat map 5A and 5K are the bassinet locations on the A350. My understanding is these (and all) bassinet seats are blocked off for general selection to ensure those travellers with babies can get these seats.
It seems strange that you cannot request/allocate these in advance of check-in opening to guarantee you get one. It may be worth a call to EY again (...and you may have to HUCA) to get a sympathetic agent to select those seats - it'll be obvious from your booking you have an infant and not just chancing it.
