Quick update- I booked a flight on my preferred airline, DL, and immediately got the AO popup on my iPhone Amex app. The $$ purchase showed up as DELTA AIR LINES for the fare amount, and the next day a credit titled NEW MERCHANT appeared in the amount of the $$ charge. So who knows, the AO may still stick, but after 2d there is no credit yet to that effect.
