I think it hinges on whether the suit will take up more storage space than just your carry-on + personal item and if the plane is full enough for other pax to object. I’ve gotten the occasional comment about a food bag, so I just stuff it in my purse to appease the agent. If you’re fine with folding it under your seat or laying it on top of your carry-on in the overhead bin, it’s basically just a coat.
