We always try and travel HBO unless on a big / long trip. We've had too many issues over the years where bags are delayed coming out of the hold or just go missing.

We've got a couple of Briggs & Riley International Wide-Body Carry On, had them for years now. They are sturdy and provide loads of space within BA (and other airlines) max cabin sizes
