Can't really comment on which option to go with, but just for awareness, you could book direct through Marriott via the AA shopping portal right now and get 3 miles/$. (Earlier today and yesterday it was 4 miles/$. Most of the time its 1 mile/$).
thanks for the info, however, going this route will only net about 4400-4500 base miles and my costs would go up, as the 3 for 1 is not eligible on any discounted lodging prices through AAA, government discounts, special pricing etc….so I would have to pay full price, which would be over $1,500. So for that price, I would be better off going with base mile deals AA is giving on their travel site
