I made the mistake of flying the HND-SFO route in F once when it was a midnight departure. Food-wise was extremely disappointing. Just the order on demand menu during the early part of the flight, then a breakfast before landing. You can only do so much with breakfast to elevate it to F levels. Similar with the Japanese curry in the F lounge, not really a First class food. I even tried to order ahead a normal F meal but they refused the request, insisting that breakfast was the only option on that flight. (despite actually landing in SFO late in the day)
