I have a choice of airlines, even though my "home" airport is ALB, I can drive to EWR, JFK/LGA, and BOS.
JetBlue offers a Mint flight (direct) from BOS to LIR on the 12/31/22 date, but the return ironically is Mint from LIR to JFK with a 7.5 hour layover and then onto BOS.
IF I choose some combination of JetBlue, my questions:
1) Can I just skip the JFK-BOS segment and be OK? (it'd be faster to drive/amtrak back to ALB).
2) OR I believe I can just book two separate one-way Mints and on the return just do the LIR-JFK (doesn't seem to change the price much).
3) Don't have enough miles so it'd be a combo of points/miles (seems no matter how I look it's basically $0.01/point redemption). If I have to cancel for other reasons (vs. JetBlue cancelling) my understanding is I get a credit voucher good for 1 year (hard date, they don't budge, even during COVID, whilst every other major airline extended their vouchers for months/years). So that's a con.
4) What about reliability? I notice the reliability of this flight isn't very good (IMO). Is JetBlue prone to cancelling and leaving you hosed? By hosed I mean, like they'll refund your money/whatnot, but now you have to book last minute ticket with other airline at an atrocious cost?
My other options (in case you're wondering) are either just doing ALB-LIR round-trip, probably on United or AA (sorry Delta, but you're too expensive at like $3700 for First class).
OR I'd possibly look at the EWR-LIR via United (direct flight). Although obviously first class on a 737-800 (United) is not exactly a fair comparison vs. Mint.
I had a JetBlue flight from SJO to JFK for October 30 that was cancelled about a month ago so I would definitely have a backup flight planned. Not sure if they'll consider cancelling LIR to JFK though.
